Looking for a change, a life change?
You might find yourself stuck in your life and unable to make a decision about which path to take. Or you might be wondering why you find yourself in the same situation over and over. Or you may be suffering from anxiety or depression. Or you may be dependent on a coping behavior that is getting in the way of living your life.
There are several different reasons why we choose psychotherapy at various times in our lives. I work with individuals, couples and adolescents who are ready to embark on a journey of change.
Each individual or couple is unique. In order to address your needs I use an eclectic approach combining Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Mindfulness work. If indicated, we can do work to heal past trauma. Together we will investigate patterns that are repeated in your life and how we can locate the payoffs for those patterns even when there appear to be none. In addition we'll see how your self-talk influences how you live your life. Does the way you perceive yourself make a difference in your daily interactions with others? Probably!
At times past trauma can be debilitating and I can employ treatment methods such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) or TRM (Trauma Resiliency Model) in order to improve your ability to function without having past experience dictate your current life. Both methods may improve your processing of trauma memories, reduce their effects and develop more adaptive coping skills.
Psychotherapy is a way to build trust with another individual, explore the reasons we have for our actions and discover whether these actions match the life we are living now. Once we form a strong therapeutic alliance, the client begins to live in the present instead of continuing past negative behaviors. My job is to help you locate that inner truth and nurture it with you until you believe it. Sometimes fear takes over instead, and we find ourselves using behaviors or substances to manage our fear. Together we'll find a way for you to learn to tolerate fear, move through it and begin to manage life on its own terms.
